It has been a busy week for York Athletics, with several teams delivering noteworthy performances.
Girls’ Swim and Dive:
The Girls' Swim and Dive teams faced Oak Park-River Forest (OPRF) in a competitive meet. The Junior Varsity team fell just short, losing 98-88. However, the Varsity team secured a decisive win with a 108-77 victory over OPRF. Congratulations to all seniors for their contributions to the program.
In other news, the Varsity team also finished 1st at the Downers Grove South Mustang Invitational.
Boys’ Golf:
The Boys’ Golf team had a strong showing at the Lake Park Invitational, winning the event. Brendan Carroll was the medalist of the meet, shooting a 1-over-par round of 73.
At the Regional tournament, the team finished 2nd overall, with Will Huber earning the individual title after posting a 1-under-par round of 69. The team now advances to the Sectional tournament.
Girls’ Golf:
Congratulations to Mia Koenigsberger (Senior) and Avery O’Brien (Freshman) for advancing to the IHSA Girls’ Golf Sectional, which will take place at Silver Lake Country Club. Best of luck to both golfers.
Girls’ Volleyball:
The Varsity Girls' Volleyball team faced Hinsdale Central in a closely contested match, ultimately winning in three sets (16-25, 25-16, 26-24). The Sophomore team won their match in two sets (25-14, 25-12) and also took 1st place at the Homewood-Flossmoor Invitational.
Football:
The York Varsity football team maintained its unbeaten record with a 21-13 win over Hinsdale Central, moving to 5-0 for the season. The JV team also secured a victory, defeating Hinsdale Central 20-0. The Freshmen A team won 24-13, while the Freshmen B team fell 33-0.
Boys’ Soccer:
The York boys’ soccer team won the Glenbard North Quad with a 1-0 victory over Conant. Jack O’Connor scored the game’s only goal, assisted by Cameron Coates. The team’s record now stands at 4-5-2. They will face OPRF in their next match on October 4th.
Girls’ Cross Country:
At the Palatine Meet, the Varsity Girls' Cross Country team won on a 6th-runner tie-breaker. The Junior Varsity team secured a win, led by individual champion Lilly Bianchi, while the Fresh-Soph team placed 2nd.
Individual Recognition:
Riggs Kohl was named to the Friday Night Drive Team of the Week for his performance in football.
York Athletics continues to report strong performances across multiple sports.
