Elmhurst 205 Library Media spaces foster a love for literacy, discovery, and creation. Students attend class in the Library Media Center at least once a week where they explore literature and nonfiction texts and participate in related hands-on activities. Students also pursue individual interests as they learn how to self-select from thousands of curated, professionally selected titles to think, create, share, and grow together!

Internet Safety

Elmhurst D205 Introduces Internet Safety lessons beginning in Kindergarten. Adapted from Common Sense Media, Kindergarten students learn how to: be safe and responsible with their District device, become a digital superhero for themselves and others, and practice media balance - including when to use their device.

Computer Science & Makerspacing

The Makerspace is a dedicated location within the library Media Center where students participate in hands-on, experiential learning activities. Supported by Project Lead the Way Launch, all students participate in at least one Computer Science and Makerspace opportunity. Specific to first grade, students engage in unplugged Computer Science activities and build on their knowledge of pushes and pulls!

Monarch Book Awards

The Monarch Award is given annually to an author and/or illustrator of a book voted as their favorite by participating K - 3 children in Illinois. The award is sponsored by the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) and is designed to encourage Illinois students to read critically and to become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators. Students read several nominated books throughout the school year and vote for their favorite.
